The addition of fresh or frozen cranberries and chopped apples transforms a yellow cake mix into these scrumptious crumb-topped bars.
Ingredients
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
2 Gala apples, peeled and chopped
1 package (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
2 package (8 oz. each) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs, divided
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon. ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
Line a 13x9-inch pan with foil, with the ends of foil extending over sides. Microwave the butter in large a microwaveable bowl on HIGH until melted (about 1 to 1-1/2 minutes). Add the dry cake mix, cinnamon and 1 egg; beat with a mixer until blended. Press 2/3 of the dough onto the bottom of a prepared pan.
Beat the sugar and cream cheese with a mixer until blended. Add the remaining egg; mix well. Spread over the crust; top with fruit. Pinch small pieces of the remaining dough between your fingers; press lightly into the cream cheese layer.
Bake for about 45-50 minutes. or until the center is almost set. Let cool completely. Refrigerate for about 1 hour. Use foil handles to lift the dessert from the pan before cutting into bars.
