PORKY Claire Annable, who had never eaten a vegetable in her life, has dropped from 18 stone (252 lbs) to a svelte 10 stone (140 lbs).
Claire Annable was addicted to junk food and had never eaten a vegetable before embarking on a weight loss mission.
The 30-year-old said: “I had never even tried a vegetable before I decided to lose weight – I just hated the idea of them so I never ate them.”
Claire always gave her children vegetables to eat, but never munched on them herself.
“I always gave veg to the kids but I was never tempted myself. I’d tuck into a takeaway pizza whilst they ate a proper meal.”
It wasn’t until she started Weight Watchers – where vegetables cost zero points in their infamous points plan – that she decided to give greens a try.
“My diet consisted of takeaways and sugary snacks – the first veg I tried was carrots and broccoli, but I poured gravy all over them because I was so worried about the taste.
“But they weren’t awful and soon I wondered what I’d been so bothered about for all these years.”
Claire, from Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire, says eating veg became a ‘turning point’ in her life.
“It was a real turning point when I ate my first piece of broccoli and stick of carrot. I was a bit worried that I’d want to spit them out straight away, but they tasted fine.
“I quickly got used to eating fresh veg and soon I was adding more fruit to my diet too – now I love it.”
She was inspired to carry on beating the bulge after struggling to carry her one-year-old son up the stairs: “I just got so out of breathe and found it exhausting.”
Claire, who is mum to Rhea, 12, and Carter, 8, admits she has always struggled with her size.
“I’d always been quite a big girl, I was a size 14 when I was just 12 years old, so I never thought about it too much.
“I’d had some embarrassing incidents in the past – like a fairground ride that didn’t move when I sat in it – but I’d always laugh it off. But I finally decided enough was enough when I couldn’t carry my son up a single flight of stairs, it was ridiculous.
“My friend suggested I join Weight Watchers with her and I thought it was worth a try. I took to it straight away, but I never expected to lose as much weight as I did.”
Within just two years, Claire dropped from 17st 9lbs to a svelte 10st 5lbs.
“As soon as I started dieting I took to it straight away. Soon, I was holding all my clothes up with belts and I was even starting to exercise a little.
“My variety of food widened and I was feeling so much healthier.”
Now Claire has reached her goal weight, and is teaching others how to get in shape.
“I’m now a Weight Watchers leader so I can help other people lose weight like I did. I’m so much happier now than I was before – I wish I’d started eating veggies years ago.
“I feel so much more confident, people don’t even recognise me now. It’s really changed my life.”
